Samaya, a 24x7 Kannada news channel, was launched on 20th June 2010. The channel aims to give objective, incisive and in-depth news round the clock. The prime focus is development journalism and the channel is making every effort to achieve it.
The channel focuses in issues that matter to people's lives. Social justice, regional balance, rural development, corruption, probity in public life, environment, art & culture and urban issues dominate the air time on Samaya.
The people of Karnataka have given a resounding reception to our channel. This is evident in the impressive GRPs earned by the channel in the initial days of launch. In the very first week of launch, it earned over 15 GRPs (26th week - TAM)*. Week by week, Samaya kept adding to its tally and earned 46 GRPs (32nd week- TAM)* in the seventh week. During the 42nd week of TAM, it earned 83.3 GRPs.
Samaya now reaches every nook and corner of the state. This reach was achieved within the first four weeks of commencement. The channel is now accessible in all cities and almost all the 175 taluks of the state. The channel has near total cable connectivity and reaches over 90% of the state's TV viewing population.
The channel has highly qualified and skilled staff strength of over 400 drawn from various disciplines such as reporting, editorial, video editing, graphics, technical, camera etc. All the senior professionals have several years of rich experience with them. Fresh candidates are trained through an exclusive training course organized by the channel.
Samaya covers the length and breadth of Karnataka like no one. The channel has reporters in every district of the state. It also has one additional reporter in each of the TAM centers and reporters in places like Sirsi, Puttur, Hampi etc. In all, Samaya has more than 40 reporters in rest of Karnataka (plus equal no. of cameramen) and around 40 reporters in Bangalore City. Thanks to its extensive network of reporters, Samaya is in a position to give unparalleled coverage to every region of Karnataka.
Samaya has two state-of-the-art studios and fully automated news system. The studio of the channel, which is located on Kasturba (Museum) Road, is a mere 5 minute drive from Vidhana Soudha and other important corridors of governance. Samaya has subscribed to TAM from the very day of its inception.
Teleport: The channel has own teleport with 9.3 meter Andrew Antenna. The installation includes complete redundancy for every stage with automatic change over suites. Uplink and Downlink are monitored using professional receivers.
Downlink: As many as 1000 high quality IRDs are distributed to MSOs across the state, Mumbai, Calcutta & Delhi for providing extensive reach even to the most interior parts of the state.
DSNG Vans: The channel owns eight state-of-the-art DSNG vans to operate on KU band. They are strategically deployed to meet the need and live coverage from any part at a short notice.
Connectivity: The channel has high quality 4 Mbps OFC leased lines from almost all major districts of the Karnataka and also important outskirts of Bangalore City. As many as 90 professional quality cameras are provided to gather news.
Network: All the district feeds are mapped to land directly into a dedicated server for immediate access and utilization of the video clips.
News Production: State-of-the-art technology is provided to support access to news through multi-servers and multi-formats. Six sources can be ingested simultaneously into SAN. Production environment consists of 16 news desks, six news edit suites and eight programme edit suites.
News Delivery: News room automation from Play Box generates playlists, Tags, TP and creates playout schedule. The channel has best-in-class and professionally designed studios with sophisticated acoustics, lights and sets.
